NCNW Statement on Shooting in Jacksonville

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) released a statement following the racially motivated shooting in Jacksonville, Fla. that took the lives of three Black people:

“NCNW is saddened by the news of the senseless and hate-fueled shooting in Jacksonville that took the lives of three innocent Black people Saturday. In these perilous times, it is a disturbing reality that Black communities are susceptible to such violent attacks. Now, more than ever, lawmakers must take urgent action to take guns out of the hands of individuals intending to harm people – particularly Black women, men and children. NCNW will continue to advocate for safer gun policies to ensure everyone maintains the right to shop, learn, worship, and enjoy public spaces without the fear of being maimed or killed. We remain prayerful for the victims and extend our condolences to their families and the entire Jacksonville community.”
